In March of 1897, 32 men in the offices of Miller & Daughtery to form the Cortland Council 233 of the Knights of Columbus. On May 30, the charter was granted T. H. Dowd was the first Grand Knight.
During the first year the council met in the C.M.B.A. hall and rooms in the Burgess Building and then into rooms in the Beaudry Building.
In 1915 the council moved into the Garrison Building. During the period from 1897 an 1915, the membership grew rapidly.
During World War I, 87 members joined the United States Armed Forces. One of the first to go was Dr. D. R. Reilly.
The fourth degree assembly was organized 1906 and William P. Walsh became faithful navigator. The council was very active in charity matters. By 1928, the council had grown to a membership of 250. In 1947, the Knights acquired the building at 50 Clinton Avenue. In March of 1997 an auction was held and the building was sold.
Cortland Council 233 of the Knights of Columbus was re-activated in July 2012 by Father Lucian Urbaniak. The council i snow meeting in the Parish Center.
